Sakura’s Showdown with a Samurai!!

If you are looking for a chance to experience sword fighting on your next trip toTokyo, look no further!!!
Boy do I have the experience for you. Ever wanted to try your hand at what Ken Watanabe does in the Last Samurai? Then here is your chance!
Spend a morning being trained by the expert choreographer and fighter, Tetsuro Shimaguchi, who not only stared and designed the fight scenes in Kill Bill One!! It is definitely not every day that you get this chance!
I for one didn’t want to let this opportunity pass me by so I went along to the `Samurai Sword Action’ workshop in Shinjuku in my casual gear as I knew it would be a `hands on’ couple of hours.

Tetsuro is a true professional with great passion for this art. He leads the workshop with an assistant who form a martial arts group which has previously toured to theUK to perform. It is easy to let down your guard and get quite into the activities! It all starts with seeing how the experts do it, they you go through drills of the movements with swords (wooden of course), and then you get to make your very own little film debut with a choreographed fight scene of you against the instructors and guess what……you are destined to WIN!!

Definitely a work out and my arms took a couple of days to feel normal again but would for sure recommend this to anyone who has an interest or not! I hadn’t previously thought to do something like this but was well impressed by the background and cultural aspects I got to learn as well and feeling like I had really physically gotten closer to being a Samurai!
