October 13th, 2009

Strictly prohibited in Japan

The use of Australian UHF-CB and New Zealand PRS is strictly prohibited in Japan.

The frequencies used by UHF-CB and PRS are used for television broadcasting in Japan. The use of such devices causes a range of problems related to television reception.

Picture problems,Block noise,No reception

Any person interfering with important administrative radio communications shall be liable to penal servitude for a period not exceeding five years or to a fine not exceeding 2.5 million yen. Attempted offenses are also subject to punishment.

If you possess a radio device that cannot be used in Japan in a condition where radio waves can be emitted, you will be punished by law, regardless of whether you are aware of the illegality of your act.

Sakura’s hot travel tip in Tokyo!!! PASMO Pass

October 13th, 2009

Sakura’s hot travel tip

in Tokyo!!!

Travel with ease in Tokyo using - `PASMO’

Getting around amongst the millions of people in Tokyo can be a daunting task but you need not worry with this convenient `Pasmo’ card! Pasmo is a top-up commuter pass which can be used on subway, JR trains and buses in Tokyo. This one card can be topped up with a maximum of 20,000 yen at one time and to use just swipe it past the sensor on the end of the ticket gate on your way through. You don’t even have to take it out of your wallet!! Some convenient stores also accept this card for payment of goods as well as vending machines.

This means that you don’t have to worry about working out how much each trip costs, fiddling with the ticket machine and navigating the station at the same time. To top up this card, all you have to do is look for the ticket machine with the Pasmo symbol, enter the card, it will give you options of how much to add, for example 1,000 yen – 20,000 yen, press the amount you wish to add and then enter your money (change is given).

Before you return home, hand this card back into the staff at the station and receive a refund of 500 yen which is the value of the card.

I thoroughly recommend using this while in Tokyo as it is a stress-free way method to getting to those tourist attractions and shopping hubs with ease!!

Now, you can purchase these passes in our store. For more information, please contact one of our very friendly staff!

Traveling on Sleeper/Night trains with a JR Pass

August 12th, 2009

Traveling on Sleeper/Night trains with a JR Pass

`Hokutosei and Cassiopeia’

Most travelers buy a JR pass for traveling in Japan as it is very economical and convenient. One thing to be careful with though is if you are wanting to do long trips using a sleep car train, booking your seats can not be done until you have activated your pass in JAPAN! Popular trains to head up to Sapporo are `Hokutosei’ and the `Cassiopeia’. Both of these trains depart in the afternoon from Ueno in Tokyo and arrive in Sapporo around 16.5 hours later.  Some travelers have trouble as these trains are also very popular with Japanese people so they with seats selling up quickly. There is no way to get around this than to buy the tickets for this trip outright with Travel Japan, with the tickets being sent to your hotel in Japan.

Just wanted to let this be known as I don’t want you to plan your trip and not be able to make it happen!!

(*Please note that the Snow Festival is the busiest season for this problem to occur*)

Smoking rules in Tokyo

July 28th, 2009

Did you know that smoking on the street is banned in Tokyo?

It’s because of two reasons, one to keep the streets clean and to protect children from the smoke. When adults hold cigarettes, it is approx children’s height so they cop the most of it.

So, if you’re a smoker make sure you smoke only in designated areas, otherwise you may get fined.
